Like an intricate puzzle, the bark pieces are hand cut, fitted & hand applied to the backing, leaving a narrow "channel" between the individual bark pieces

  "Ginto Bark" Botanical Ribbon is quite amazing.   Natural bark pieces are cut, fitted & adhered to a recycled kraft backing all by hand with small open "channels" between the bark pieces.  We found this in one of the villages we were at while in the back country in the Philippines.  Tagalog is the native language spoken by most Phillipinos & "ginto" means "gold" in Tagalog.  Most of the bark pieces have also been lightly brushed with gold paint & very fine gold dust (not REAL gold)   As you can imagine, no one is doing this type of labor-intensive work anymore.  Most of the younger people want to leave the villages for Manila or another large city.
