And HERE are THE cabbage leaves! We found these on one of our overseas buying trips. This was from a vendor who specialized in creating artificial fruits & veggies, usually in paper & primarily for the restaurant & high-end grocery stores, but we thought they were just too fabulous to pass up, & I could immediately see a variety of "cabbage creations"!
And of course these are made from paper!!! Two layers of handpainted paper are laminated together with 3 pieces of shaped wire to make the internal cabbage leaf "stem", captured between the paper layers , allowing the cabbage leaves to be bent and shaped.
And immediately we decided to make a "Cabbage Leaf Bowl". We covered a kitchen bowl with foil, then one by one, we molded our cabbage leaves around the bowl, starting with the bottom of the bowl (1 leaf) then "tiling" each leaf individually, using something like E6000 to bond each one. Depending on the bowl you use for your mold, you can make a variety of "Cabbage Leaf Bowls". We made tall skinny ones & short, almost flat ones - also made one that that we could fit a clear glass bowl into for a summer salad!
Then we decided we needed a "Cabbage Leaf Vase" - Cabbage Leaves wrapped around a clear glass vase, then accented with an Abaca Ribbon bow
We even made a "Cabbage Leaf Recipe Book"! I had old recipe cards from the 1920's, so I just glued those on the leaves for this example, but you could put together a "Cabbage Leaf Book" with just about anything on the pages - (even your favorite cabbage recipes!)
BUT THE ABSOLUTE BEST IDEA
came from a customer who created THIS !!!
Ok, your turn - what can YOU DO with Cabbage Leaves???
